Delhi SIR: Rekha Gupta, Kejriwal, Sibal Among Prominent Voters Issued Notices

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and former Union minister Kapil Sibal are among several prominent voters who have received notices over discrepancies found in their enumeration forms during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The Delhi CEO office said Gupta’s entry has since been validated, and her name will be retained in the final electoral roll for the Shalimar Bagh constituency, which is scheduled to be published on November 4.

Gupta’s notice was issued over an age-related discrepancy in the details submitted in her enumeration form. Officials said the issue was subsequently verified.

Kejriwal, a voter in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, and his family members were issued notices for being “unmapped with last SIR”. His wife Sunita Kejriwal, parents and son also received notices on the same grounds.

The Electoral Registration Officer for the New Delhi constituency said the forms submitted by Kejriwal and his family did not contain complete details required to establish their linkage with the electoral roll from the previous SIR. Their names will be validated and kept for inclusion in the final voter list after the required facts and documents are verified.

Reacting to the notices, AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda questioned the process and asked why the votes of Kejriwal and his family had been flagged.

Sibal and his wife Promila were also issued notices for being “unmapped with last SIR”. Former Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal are among the other prominent voters who received notices.

Sachdeva said his notice related to a mismatch in his name and that he would submit the necessary documents to have the details corrected. He added that his wife and brother had also received notices.

Over 33 Lakh Voters Flagged

The Delhi CEO office said more than 33.13 lakh voters whose names appeared in the draft electoral rolls had been identified for discrepancies in their enumeration forms. Of these, notices had been issued to around 31.63 lakh voters.

Officials said most of the notices were linked to the inability to establish a connection with the electoral roll from the previous SIR conducted in 2002.

The notices are being issued during the claims and objections phase of the SIR, which will conclude on September 30. Voters receiving notices have been asked to submit their replies and supporting documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officers by October 29.

The Delhi CEO office has uploaded the list of voters who received notices on its website.

Officials also clarified that prominent voters, including public representatives and individuals from the judiciary, arts, culture, journalism, sports and public services, whose records were earlier flagged in the electoral database have been included in the draft rolls. This allows them an opportunity to submit the required documents during the claims and objections process.
