Teen Gang-Raped Near Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple, Male Friend Threatened by Fake Cops; One Arrested

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men who claimed to be police officers at Astha Kunj Park near Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple on Monday evening, Delhi Police said.

The accused allegedly threatened the girl and her 17-year-old male friend before the sexual assault. According to the complaint, the girl went to Kalkaji Temple with her friend at around 7 pm. After visiting the temple, the teenagers reached Astha Kunj Park at approximately 7.30 pm.

Police said three men, aged between 25 and 30 years, approached the teenagers and allegedly introduced themselves as policemen. They then reportedly threatened both the girl and her friend. In her statement to police, the girl alleged that one of the men restrained her male friend while all three accused sexually assaulted her.

PTI reported that the alleged incident occurred in the park connecting Kalkaji Mandir and ISKCON Temple.

A PCR call was received at around 8.45 pm, following which a police team reached the park. The teenager was taken for a medical examination, and police initiated further legal proceedings based on her statement.

A case was registered under relevant provisions, including the POCSO Act, police said.

CCTV Footage Scanned

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from Astha Kunj Park and nearby locations to identify the accused and establish the sequence of events.

Police are also gathering information from people who may have been present in or around the park at the time of the alleged incident, PTI reported.

One Accused Arrested After Gunfire

Delhi Police later apprehended one of the alleged accused following an exchange of fire.

The accused was identified as Asif, ANI reported. Police said he suffered a bullet injury to his right leg.

According to police, Asif allegedly opened fire when officers intercepted him and fired three rounds. He allegedly continued shooting despite being asked to surrender, following which police retaliated and a bullet struck his right leg.

The accused was taken into custody, while police continued efforts to locate the other two suspects.
