Ayushmann Khurrana on ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ Chant in Udta Teer: ‘Every Spy Film Has It’

Ayushmann Khurrana has opened up about chanting “Pakistan Zindabad” in his upcoming film Udta Teer, saying that an actor has to go by what the story and screenplay demand. Khurrana plays a Pakistani spy in the film who suffers memory loss and mistakenly believes that he is Indian. At the trailer launch, the actor was asked about performing the chant and whether he found the scene challenging.

‘As an Actor, You Are Ready to Do Anything’

Khurrana said the chant is an integral part of the script and pointed out that such moments are common in spy films. However, he stressed that Udta Teer takes a different approach to the genre. “That’s part of the script, ya. As an actor, you are ready to do anything. Voh toh hota hi raha hai, har ek spy film mein hota hai,” Khurrana said.

Describing the film, he added, “But the difference is that this is a spy comedy. Spy comedy hai, patriotic comedy hai, genre bender hai.”

The actor said he gives priority to the script when choosing and performing a role.

“Main hamesha script ko pehle dekhta hoon. Whatever the script demands from me, I do. And I am a director’s baby, and he has written a fantastic script,” he added.

Sara Ali Khan on Working With Khurrana Again

Udta Teer also features Sara Ali Khan, who spoke about sharing screen space with Khurrana. Khan revealed that the film was actually shot before Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. She said the experience was particularly interesting because the two films required completely different equations between their characters.

“I had a blast, honestly. This film, actually, we shot before Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. But accha tha, alag tha,” she said.

The actor explained that working with the same co-star becomes exciting when the characters and their relationships are completely different.

“Kyunki jo film aap kar rahe ho, jo kirdaar aap kar rahe ho, vo kitni alag hai,” Khan said.

She further explained that while one character enters Khurrana’s life as a disruptive force, the other is his wife, creating two contrasting on-screen dynamics.

“Ek jagah aap unki life mein tehelka banke aayi ho, ek jagah par aap inki wife hain—equation itna alag hai ki almost in the same time we were able to have such a different equation with the same actor. It was, honestly, so thrilling for me,” she added.

Udta Teer Cast and Release Date

Directed by Akash A Kaushik in his directorial debut, Udta Teer combines spy elements with comedy and features an ensemble cast. The film also stars Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe.

Udta Teer is set to arrive in cinemas on October 9, 2026.
