Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Ajinkya Shinde, along with several party volunteers, on Tuesday morning after they entered Jantar Mantar carrying the national flag to stage a protest.
The action followed Delhi Police’s announcement on Monday, October 12, that Jantar Mantar would no longer be a “designated site” for protests. The decision comes amid restrictions on demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of “vote chori”.
The CJP leaders reportedly entered the protest site early Tuesday in an attempt to reclaim the venue for demonstrations. They were subsequently detained by Delhi Police.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced the development in a post on X, naming Ranka, Das and Shinde among those detained along with other party members.
“Cockroaches with the Tiranga sneaked into Jantar Mantar early this morning before they were picked up by Delhi Police,” Dipke wrote. He also directed a message at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, declaring, “You cannot denotify the resistance,” signalling that the party intended to continue its protest despite the restrictions.
