Trump Issues Fresh Warning To Tehran: ‘Iran Will Never Have A Nuclear Weapon’, Claims US Strikes Yet To Finish
Trump Hints At More Strikes On Iran, Says US Has Just 1-2 Targets Left, Including Pickaxe Mountain
US President Donald Trump has signalled the possibility of further military action against Iran, claiming that Washington has only one or two remaining targets to deal with. One of the locations he mentioned was Pickaxe Mountain, a suspected underground nuclear complex that has drawn attention amid concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities.
Speaking to reporters at his Florida residence on Saturday, Trump insisted that Iran would never be permitted to possess nuclear weapons. At the same time, he suggested that negotiations between Washington and Tehran were moving forward, although he questioned whether Iran could be trusted to honour an agreement.
“Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. They want to make a deal; we’ll find out about that,” Trump said.
Asked about the progress of diplomatic discussions, Trump described them as going well but accused Tehran of repeatedly backing away from agreements. He also claimed that American military operations had already destroyed much of Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure.
“We’ve knocked out their nuclear. We still have to take care of, I would say one or two sites, but we can do that in 10 minutes,” he said.
Trump specifically referred to Pickaxe Mountain, suggesting that the suspected underground facility could be among the remaining locations requiring action. He maintained that the United States could strike the site quickly if needed.
Iran, however, has rejected claims that nuclear activities are being conducted at the facility.
Trump Yet To Make Final Call On Additional Military Action
Despite his warnings, the US president has not announced a final decision on launching another round of strikes. Washington continues to keep diplomatic engagement with Tehran on the table.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said earlier on Saturday that Trump had not decided whether to authorise fresh military action against Iran. He also stressed that the United States remained open to resolving the dispute through diplomacy.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, meanwhile, issued a warning to Washington and Israel against launching further attacks. His remarks came after Trump suggested that the United States could consider renewed military operations following the US midterm elections.
Trump had previously raised the possibility of “finish them off” action against Iran, keeping tensions high despite ongoing discussions over a possible agreement.
Iran Nuclear Dispute Remains At The Centre Of Conflict
The United States and Israel began their military campaign against Iran at the end of February. Trump has repeatedly claimed that the operation inflicted major damage on Iran’s military strength and nuclear infrastructure.
The US administration continues to insist that Tehran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. Trump’s latest statements highlight the continuing uncertainty between diplomatic negotiations and the possibility of additional military strikes.
