The excitement surrounding the India-Pakistan rivalry has reached extraordinary levels ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. The much-awaited encounter has received nearly 84 lakh ticket applications, even though the stadium hosting the match has a seating capacity of just 34,000.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the October 10 clash at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg has attracted 8,397,294 ticket requests through the ongoing ballot. The figures highlight the enormous worldwide following of the two cricketing giants and the unmatched popularity of their encounters.

Interestingly, the tournament’s final has also witnessed huge demand. Scheduled for November 21 at the same Johannesburg venue, the title-deciding match has received 7,900,944 applications, making it the second-most popular fixture in the ticket ballot.

The response to the tournament has been remarkable, with the ICC reporting more than 120 million ticket requests from 193 countries. Approximately 2.8 million individual supporters have registered their interest in attending the competition.

The 2027 edition will bring the ODI World Cup back to Africa after 24 years. South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly stage the tournament, which will feature 14 teams, 57 matches and 12 venues.

South Africa has recorded the highest ticket demand, receiving more than 105 million applications for 41 matches across eight venues. Matches involving the host nation have alone generated close to 26 million requests.

The ticket registration window will remain open until November 21, 2026. Fans can apply through the ICC’s official ticketing website, while seats for high-demand matches will be allocated through a randomised ballot system.
