Diwali 2026: 3 Special Lakshmi Puja Rituals To Invite Financial Growth And Good Fortune
Diwali is one of the most auspicious festivals in the Hindu calendar, celebrated with prayers, lights and traditional rituals dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi. As devotees prepare for the evening Lakshmi Puja, the focus is on seeking blessings for wealth, happiness, prosperity and a peaceful life.
Apart from decorating homes, lighting earthen lamps and performing the customary prayers, several age-old practices are believed to hold special significance during the festival. These rituals are traditionally associated with attracting abundance and strengthening financial well-being.
Astrologer Prashant Kapoor, founder of AstroKapoor, suggests three traditional practices that devotees can follow during Lakshmi Puja. According to him, prosperity is not limited to earning money; it also involves preserving wealth, maintaining financial discipline and making sensible choices.
Here is a look at three rituals that can be included in your Diwali worship.
1. Place 11 Gomti Chakras In Your Locker
Gomti Chakras are naturally formed shell-like structures traditionally associated with Goddess Lakshmi. In Hindu beliefs, they are considered symbols of good luck, wealth and prosperity.
Keeping these sacred objects in a locker after Diwali worship is believed to invite financial abundance and stability.
Steps to follow:
- Collect exactly 11 Gomti Chakras and clean them gently.
- Place them in front of Goddess Lakshmi during the puja.
- Apply Kumkum to each chakra and offer your prayers.
- Wrap them in a fresh red or yellow cloth.
- Once the rituals are completed, store the bundle in your locker.
2. Offer Five Turmeric Roots To Goddess Lakshmi
Turmeric occupies an important place in Hindu traditions and is commonly used in religious ceremonies as a symbol of purity and auspiciousness.
In Vedic astrology, the colour yellow is associated with Jupiter, a planet traditionally linked with wisdom, prosperity, growth and financial opportunities. Offering turmeric during Lakshmi Puja is therefore considered an auspicious practice.
Steps to follow:
- Take five whole turmeric roots.
- Spread a clean yellow cloth before Goddess Lakshmi.
- Place the turmeric roots on the cloth.
- Offer flowers and Kumkum while praying for wealth and financial stability.
- After the puja, keep the turmeric roots in your home temple.
3. Perform The Silver Coin And Akshat Ritual
Silver coins and rice grains are frequently used in Hindu religious ceremonies. Akshat, or unbroken rice grains, represents completeness and auspiciousness, while silver is traditionally associated with the Moon in Vedic astrology.
This ritual symbolically combines abundance, emotional balance and prosperity.
Steps to follow:
- Take a small silver coin and some unbroken rice grains.
- Clean the coin before beginning the puja.
- Place it in a bowl containing rice and keep it before Goddess Lakshmi.
- Apply a little Kumkum to the coin and offer prayers.
- After the puja, keep the silver coin in your locker. The rice can be reused in the kitchen.
WELCOME DIWALI WITH PRAYERS FOR ABUNDANCE
Lakshmi Puja is an important part of Diwali celebrations, reminding devotees to value wealth, wisdom, harmony and contentment. While traditional rituals are believed to invite good fortune, lasting prosperity also depends on financial discipline, thoughtful decisions and a balanced approach to life.
These three practices, suggested by astrologer Prashant Kapoor, can be performed as part of the festive worship. Above all, devotees are encouraged to observe the rituals with faith and devotion while welcoming the festival with positivity and gratitude.
