Trump Picks UFC Chief Dana White For Press Secretary Role, Demands Criminal Probes Against Democrats
Trump Invites UFC Boss Dana White To Become Press Secretary, Seeks Criminal Action Against Democrats
US President Donald Trump has signalled an aggressive political response to the Republicans’ defeat in the midterm elections, urging his longtime ally and UFC chief Dana White to take over as White House press secretary while calling on the Justice Department to investigate Democratic leaders.
The move comes as Democrats prepare to take control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in January, raising the prospect of extensive congressional investigations into Trump’s administration and his personal and business dealings.
Despite the electoral setback, Trump appeared determined to confront his political opponents. In a social media post on Saturday, he publicly appealed to White, the president and CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), to join his administration.
” Dana, please take the job!” Trump wrote, describing the mixed martial arts executive as a “violent Fighter and Warrior”.
In a separate announcement, Trump accused Democrats of engaging in “extortion at the highest level” and directed the Justice Department to examine their alleged activities. He also called for those involved to face imprisonment.
The latest developments followed Trump’s appointment of senior adviser Stephen Miller as his next White House chief of staff. The president praised Miller as “a great fighter”, reflecting the combative tone of his recent public statements.
DANA WHITE EMERGES AS TRUMP’S CHOICE FOR PRESS SECRETARY
White, 57, has been among Trump’s closest allies in the sporting world. As the head of the UFC, he oversees one of the world’s most prominent mixed martial arts organisations, known for its globally televised cage fights.
Although White has not officially accepted the offer, he fuelled speculation about the possibility by sharing a photograph of himself behind the lectern in the White House press briefing room. The image, which appeared possibly AI-generated, was accompanied by the caption, “On to the next chapter.”
Trump also named six UFC fighters whom he wanted White to bring to the White House as advisers. The proposed list included two Russian fighters and one Brazilian.
The press secretary position has been vacant since October 16, when Katie Zacharia departed less than a week after taking up the role.
Trump and White share a longstanding friendship, with the UFC chief having openly supported the Republican president. White also appeared alongside Trump during his victory speech following the 2024 presidential election.
The president has frequently attended UFC events across the country, including competitions in Miami, New York and New Jersey. In June, the organisation staged a cage-fighting event on the White House South Lawn to celebrate Trump’s 80th birthday.
TRUMP SEEKS JUSTICE DEPARTMENT PROBE INTO DEMOCRATS
Trump’s remarks against Democrats came as the opposition prepared to assume control of congressional committees and launch investigations into several areas of his administration.
“The Democrats are going around threatening a lot of people,” Trump wrote, alleging that their actions amounted to a criminal offence.
He subsequently called for imprisonment for those he described as “EXTORTIONISTS“.
Democrats are expected to use their new congressional majority to demand documents, summon administration officials and conduct public hearings.
Among the potential subjects of investigation are the Trump family’s business and cryptocurrency activities, government contracts involving billionaire Elon Musk, reductions in federal agencies, immigration enforcement policies, the handling of the Iran war and the administration’s approach to files concerning convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Robert Garcia, who is expected to become chairman of the House Oversight Committee, issued a pointed message as the election results emerged.
“Lawyer up,” Garcia wrote on X.
THIRD IMPEACHMENT POSSIBILITY ADDS TO POLITICAL TENSIONS
The incoming Democratic majority could also consider launching a third impeachment proceeding against Trump, although party leaders have not made any formal commitment.
Under the US Constitution, the House of Representatives can impeach a president with a simple majority. However, removing a president from office requires a two-thirds majority in the Senate, making the process considerably more difficult.
Trump’s response to the latest electoral setback has revived memories of the 2018 midterm elections, when Democrats gained control of the House. Following that defeat, Trump warned that his administration would adopt a “war-like posture” towards congressional investigations.
He was subsequently impeached in 2019 and again in 2021.
With Democrats preparing to intensify oversight of the administration and Trump signalling a confrontational response, the latest developments point to renewed political tensions in Washington as the new Congress prepares to take office.
