Ankit Balyan Murder: Two Suspects Killed In Shamli Police Encounter, Investigation Underway
Two men suspected of involvement in the murder of Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Balyan were killed in a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli, officials said. The encounter took place in an industrial area falling under the Sadar Kotwali police station limits. Authorities have yet to release further details about the identities of the suspects or the circumstances that led to the encounter.
Balyan was shot dead outside his gym in Shamli last week. CCTV footage of the incident showed four armed men firing repeatedly at the singer before escaping on two motorcycles. The 1-minute-29-second footage shows Balyan leaving the gym at around 6:45 pm. Wearing black clothes and carrying a bag, he walks towards his car parked beside the gym.
Seconds later, four men approach from across the road and open fire. Police said around 16 rounds were fired within roughly 25 seconds before the attackers fled the spot.
POLICE PROBE GANG CLAIM
The investigation intensified after a man identifying himself as Bholu Shahpuri from Sonipat, Haryana, claimed in a social media post that the Gogi gang was responsible for the murder. Police are verifying the authenticity of the claim. Four teams have reportedly been sent to Haryana as part of the investigation.
Just hours before his death, Balyan had posted an Instagram video in which he was sitting inside his car and singing lines from Baby Badmash, a song released last month.
The video featured the line, “Murder maar de sadak ke upar.”
ANKIT BALYAN’S MUSIC CAREER
Balyan, a Shamli resident, had built a significant online following, with more than five lakh Instagram followers and over three lakh YouTube subscribers. His popular songs included Bhari Court Mein Goli Marenge, Body Builder, PTI and Ek Khtola Jail Ke Bhitar. His music often focused on themes of guns, rivalry, violence, fights and SUVs.
According to his brother, Balyan had initially pursued kabaddi and played at the state level until around 2013-14. He competed in tournaments in Delhi, Bhopal and other cities before a leg fracture forced him to step away from the sport.
He subsequently joined a gym and later turned towards music. Around 2022, he began pursuing Haryanvi music professionally. Over the course of his career, he worked on more than 50 songs as a singer, lyricist and composer.
The encounter is the latest major development in the murder investigation as police continue to establish the motive behind Balyan’s killing and identify others allegedly involved in the attack.
