AR Rahman’s Son AR Ameen Speaks Out After Chennai Car Accident: ‘I Was In The Passenger Seat’

AR Rahman’s son and playback singer AR Ameen has opened up about the Chennai road accident he was involved in early Monday, August 10, assuring fans that everyone involved is safe.

Ameen said he was seated in the passenger seat of his friend’s car when the accident occurred while they were on their way to the airport. Taking to Instagram Stories, Ameen said, “Yesterday, on the way to the airport, I was in the passenger seat of my friend’s car when we got into a minor accident. By God’s grace, everyone involved is safe and okay.” He also expressed gratitude for the protection and blessings that helped everyone come through the incident safely.

Ameen thanked his family, friends and well-wishers for checking on him and sending their prayers and support after the accident. He said their concern meant more to him than he could express.

The singer also acknowledged the influence of his grandmother, father AR Rahman and GV Anna, saying he believes their prayers and the values they instilled in him continue to guide and protect him. He added that he would carry their teachings with him.

According to Hindustan Times, the accident took place at around 3:30 am near Guindy in Chennai. Ameen was travelling with a friend in a luxury SUV when it collided with a hatchback operated by a cab aggregator. Police said the hatchback had reportedly moved from the left side of the road into the main lane before the collision.

Ameen, his friend and the hatchback driver suffered minor injuries and were given first aid before being discharged. No fatalities were reported.

Police subsequently seized both vehicles as part of the investigation. A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 337, relating to causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety, and Section 279, which deals with rash or negligent driving on a public road.
