Bengal Cricketer Abishek Porel Arrested Following Rape Allegation Against Him

Bengal cricketer and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been arrested in Hooghly following a rape complaint filed by a medical student.

The woman has alleged that Porel established a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her. Porel was taken into custody by police on Tuesday and formally arrested after questioning. He was later sent for a medical examination before being produced before the Chinsurah Court.

According to the FIR filed at Mogra Police Station, the complainant has accused Porel of rape, criminal intimidation and recording private moments. She has alleged that he later used the recordings to threaten her.

The complaint also refers to an alleged incident in Delhi on April 2, 2026. The woman has claimed that Porel confined her and denied her food, leaving her physically weak and unable to walk properly. She allegedly required medical attention following the incident.

Woman Claims Relationship Led To Marriage Discussions

The complainant has alleged that she and Porel were in a relationship and that their families had discussed their marriage. According to her complaint, the relationship later deteriorated after she allegedly discovered that Porel was involved with other women.

She has also alleged that private photographs or recordings were made without her consent and subsequently used to intimidate her.

The complaint contains allegations of sexual assault, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement. These claims remain allegations and have not been proven in court.

Calcutta High Court Directs Police Action

The matter was subsequently brought before the Calcutta High Court after the woman approached the court. The court directed the police to take necessary steps in the investigation. The court also directed Mogra Police to seize Porel’s electronic devices to prevent the alleged circulation of photographs or other private material connected to the complainant.

Police had earlier seized a pen drive and sent it for forensic examination as part of the investigation. Porel, who plays domestic cricket for Bengal and represents Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, will now face the legal proceedings arising from the complaint.

The allegations against him have not been established in court. The case remains under investigation, and the claims will be examined through the ongoing legal process.
