At UNGA, India Calls Out Pakistan’s Global Terror Footprint

At the UN General Assembly, Indian diplomat Rentala Srinivas launched a strong attack on Pakistan, accusing it of being at the heart of global terrorism.

“Pakistan’s reputation speaks for itself. Its fingerprints are visible in terrorism across multiple regions. It is a menace not only to its neighbours but to the entire world,” Srinivas said, according to news agency IANS. Without directly naming the country, he added, “No arguments or untruths can ever whitewash the crimes of Terroristan.”

Pakistan’s Reply Backfires

As per diplomatic practice at the UN, nations often refrain from exercising their right of reply if they are not explicitly named. However, breaking convention, a secretary in Pakistan’s UN Mission, Muhammad Rashid, rushed to respond. In what observers described as a furious admission, Rashid accused India of distorting Pakistan’s name by calling it “Terroristan.” But in doing so, analysts said, he effectively acknowledged that the remark was aimed at Pakistan.

The term “-stan” originates from Persian, meaning “place of” or “land of,” and is common in country names.

India Walks Out

While Rashid continued his protest, India’s delegation walked out of the Assembly Hall. IANS noted that Pakistan’s recorded reaction “almost amounted to an admission that the accusation was directed at them.”
