China’s Xi Meets Belarus President Lukashenko in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping met Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing on Monday, reaffirming close ties between the two countries as Minsk continues to maintain its strategic partnership with both Beijing and Moscow.

According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, Xi hosted Lukashenko at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in the Chinese capital. No further details of the meeting or its agenda were immediately released.

Lukashenko’s Latest Visit to China

The meeting marks Lukashenko’s latest visit to China after travelling to Beijing in September 2025 to attend a military parade commemorating the end of World War II and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin.

The Belarusian leader has sought to strengthen economic and political cooperation with China in recent years as Western sanctions on Minsk have intensified.

Belarus’ Close Ties With Russia

Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994, is one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest allies. Belarus allowed Russian forces to use its territory as a staging ground during Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, though Lukashenko has repeatedly maintained that Belarus has no plans to directly enter the conflict.

The country also hosts Russia’s Oreshnik nuclear-capable missile system, reinforcing its strategic role on NATO’s eastern frontier.

China’s Position on Ukraine

China has consistently described itself as a neutral party in the Russia-Ukraine war and has called for dialogue and a negotiated settlement to the conflict. However, Ukraine and several Western governments have accused Beijing of providing political and economic backing to Russia, allegations that China has repeatedly denied.

Xi’s meeting with Lukashenko comes as Beijing continues to deepen its diplomatic engagement with countries that maintain close ties with Moscow while projecting itself as a supporter of political dialogue and regional stability.
