Cocktail 2 Beats Original’s Lifetime Box Office Collection in Just 9 Days

Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna’s Cocktail 2 has added another feather to its cap. Although the film’s collections have slowed after a blockbuster opening weekend, it has already surpassed the lifetime India box office haul of the 2012 original in just nine days.

According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Cocktail 2 earned ₹4.25 crore on its ninth day, taking its India net collection to ₹78.75 crore. The film’s gross domestic collection now stands at ₹93.97 crore, comfortably overtaking the ₹71 crore lifetime India collection of Cocktail, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.

The romantic drama enjoyed a flying start at the box office after releasing on June 19. It opened with ₹13.50 crore on Friday before witnessing strong weekend growth, collecting ₹16.25 crore on Saturday and ₹17.75 crore on Sunday. The film wrapped up its opening weekend with an impressive ₹47.50 crore.

While weekday collections naturally dipped, the film maintained a healthy run, earning ₹6.75 crore each on Monday and Tuesday, followed by ₹5.25 crore on Wednesday and ₹4.25 crore on Thursday to finish its first week with ₹70.50 crore.

The second weekend, however, has not delivered the expected boost. After collecting ₹4.25 crore on its second Friday, the film is estimated to have earned ₹2.89 crore on Saturday, indicating that its theatrical run is beginning to lose momentum.

The slowdown comes amid mixed audience word-of-mouth and stiff competition from new releases, including Welcome To The Jungle, Main Vaapas Aaunga and several regional films. The film’s screen count has also reduced significantly over the past few days, impacting its overall collections.

Despite the dip, Cocktail 2 remains firmly in contention to enter the ₹100-crore club. The film now requires just over ₹21 crore more to reach the milestone, though trade analysts believe it is currently on course to finish its India run in the ₹85-90 crore range unless it sees a strong revival over the coming week.

Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 is a spiritual sequel to the 2012 cult romantic drama. Written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, the film is backed by Maddock Films and Luv Films and features Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles.

News18 Showsha, in its review, praised the film’s visually appealing first half and a handful of emotionally effective moments but felt the familiar love-triangle storyline and extended runtime prevented it from recreating the charm and freshness of the original Cocktail.
