No Putin-Zelenskyy Meeting at G20: Kremlin Rejects Miami Proposal, Says Moscow Is Only Option

The Kremlin has ruled out a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Miami, calling the proposed talks “impossible”. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made the statement to AFP in New Delhi on Saturday, saying Moscow’s position on a possible face-to-face meeting with Zelenskyy remains unchanged.

Peskov was asked whether Russia was considering any location other than Moscow for talks between the two leaders. He reiterated that the Kremlin was prepared to host Zelenskyy in the Russian capital.

“There is a readiness to meet him in Moscow,” Peskov said.

Kremlin Keeps Moscow Offer on Table

The statement comes amid continuing diplomatic efforts to find a way forward in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Kyiv and Moscow remain sharply divided over the terms and venue of any potential meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy.

While Ukraine has pushed for direct talks, Russia has repeatedly indicated that any such meeting should take place in Moscow. Peskov’s latest remarks therefore rule out Miami as a possible venue for a Putin-Zelenskyy meeting during the G20, while leaving Russia’s invitation to Zelenskyy to travel to Moscow unchanged.

Russia-Ukraine Peace Efforts Continue

Diplomatic efforts to restart meaningful negotiations between the two sides have continued, but no major breakthrough has been confirmed. The disagreement over where and under what conditions Putin and Zelenskyy could meet remains one of the key hurdles.

With the Kremlin rejecting the G20 as a venue, attention now remains on whether Kyiv will respond to Moscow’s offer of talks in the Russian capital.
