Heartbreak at Eden: Mukul Choudhary Pulls Off Stunning Heist to Down KKR

Another last-ball finish, another painful defeat for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Their wait for a first win in Indian Premier League 2026 continues after a dramatic loss to Lucknow Super Giants on April 9, where Mukul Choudhary pulled off a stunning heist at Eden Gardens.

Defending 181, KKR were in command for large parts of the chase. A disciplined middle phase, led by Sunil Narine and Anukul Roy, tightened the screws and pushed LSG onto the back foot. But just when the game seemed sealed, Mukul flipped the script with a fearless late assault.

From control to collapse

LSG’s chase never truly settled. Early blows removed Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh, while Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran fell in quick succession. Even a steady 54 from Ayush Badoni wasn’t enough to steady the innings, as KKR kept striking at key moments.

At 13 overs, the game looked all but done.

Enter Mukul Choudhary.

The 21-year-old held his nerve through the spin choke before shifting gears late. Starting in the 17th over, he attacked relentlessly—taking on Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, and then dismantling Cameron Green to drag LSG back into contention.

Final-over frenzy

The last over had everything—sixes, missed yorkers, and nerves of steel.

With seven needed off two balls, Mukul sliced a six over point to swing the equation. Off the final delivery, he missed but sprinted through for the winning run, sealing a remarkable comeback and leaving KKR stunned.

Where KKR lost it

Beyond the finish, KKR will reflect on missed opportunities.

The early dismissal of Finn Allen—amid doubts over a boundary catch—proved costly. More importantly, their batting approach raised questions. From 98/1 in 10 overs, they managed only 181, with acceleration stalling through the middle phase.

Power-hitters like Andre Russell, Narine, and Anukul never got a chance to bat, highlighting a conservative approach in an era where 200-plus totals are increasingly the benchmark.

A star emerges

While KKR search for answers, LSG may have found a finisher.

Backed by coach Justin Langer, Mukul showcased composure, awareness, and clean hitting under pressure—hallmarks of a top-tier T20 closer.

From Jhunjhunu to Eden Gardens, this wasn’t just a match-winning knock—it was a statement.
