Income Tax Return Deadline Extended to September 16.
The Income Tax Department on Monday extended the Income Tax Return (ITR) filing deadline for Assessment Year 2025-26 by one day, moving it from September 15 to September 16, 2025. The original deadline was July 31, which had already been extended once.
The extension comes after taxpayers faced technical glitches on the e-filing portal, making it difficult to complete filings. The portal will also undergo maintenance from 12:00 am to 2:30 am on September 16 to implement necessary updates.
Taxpayers are urged to file their returns promptly to avoid last-minute issues or penalties.
Milestone Filings
Over 7 crore ITRs have already been filed this year, surpassing last year’s 7.28 crore. The department thanked taxpayers and professionals for their timely compliance and urged those who haven’t filed yet to complete their returns.
