Fans of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah have long awaited the return of Dayaben, played by Disha Vakani, who has been absent from the show for over seven years. Recently, her real-life and on-screen brother, Mayur Vakani, revealed the real reason behind her continued absence: Disha is focusing on her family and children.

“I have seen her journey closely. She is truly blessed and has worked very hard, which is why people love her so much as Daya. Right now, she is performing her most important role in real life — that of a mother — with complete dedication,” Mayur told ETimes.

Disha went on maternity leave in 2018 and hasn’t returned since. Earlier this year, TMKOC creator Asit Modi confirmed to News18 Showsha that she would not be coming back.

“It’s tough for her now. Life changes after marriage, and balancing work with young children is challenging. I hope someday a miracle might happen, but if not, we may need another Dayaben for the show,” Modi said.

Despite Dayaben’s absence, TMKOC continues to be a success, recently completing 4,500 episodes. The show has evolved to focus on multiple residents of Gokuldham Society, keeping its storytelling fresh and engaging even without the iconic character.
