Emmanuel Macron on Monday urged the United States and Iran to jointly move toward reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz, warning that cooperation between the two is essential to restore normalcy in the region.
Addressing European leaders in Yerevan, Macron emphasised that a coordinated effort is the only viable path to resume safe maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, which handles a significant share of global oil shipments.
“What we want above all is a coordinated reopening by the United States and Iran — that is the only solution,” he said. Macron also ruled out France’s participation in any unclear or open-ended military mission, even as the US presses ahead with operations to escort ships through the tense corridor.
France, along with the United Kingdom, has been leading diplomatic efforts to form a coalition to secure the route once stability is restored.
