Diljit Dosanjh Voices Support for CJP Protest, Says ‘I’ll Be Called Anti-National Again’

Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has thrown his weight behind the ongoing CJP-led student protests, urging the government to listen to students’ demands while acknowledging that his support could once again invite accusations of being “anti-national.”

In a series of Instagram Stories, Diljit reacted to reports of action against student protesters, describing the developments as “unfortunate” and calling for a more compassionate approach.

‘Listen to the Students’

Sharing his message in Punjabi, Diljit wrote:

“Aj Jo hoyea Baut Maada Hoyea.. Students Naal Edan Treat Nhi Hona Chaida c.. Mai Authorities Nu Request Karda Ke Students Dian Demands Nu sunn Leya Javey.. Lokan Di Avaaz Rab Di Avaaz Hundi Aa.”

Translated into English, the actor said what happened to the students was deeply disappointing and appealed to the authorities to hear their demands, adding that “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”

‘I’ll Be Called Anti-National Again’

Diljit also reflected on the criticism he says he faced for supporting the farmers’ movement, claiming he expects a similar reaction this time.

“Mere Te Already Anti Nationalist Da Tag Baut Vaar Lagg Chuka.. Hun V Mainu Anti-nationalist Keha Jaega. After Kisan Protest.. I faced a Lot of Backlash & Legal Problems which I can’t Even Discuss.. BAKI RAB SAB DEKH REHA, BABA BHALLI KARU.”

He said he had previously been labelled “anti-national” multiple times and alleged that his support for the farmers’ protest led to considerable backlash and legal issues, some of which he said he still cannot discuss publicly.

What Is the CJP Movement?

The latest protests are linked to the controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 examination, which has been rocked by allegations of a question paper leak and tampering of OMR answer sheets. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has acknowledged irregularities, while the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating an alleged examination leak racket.

The public outrage fuelled the rise of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical youth movement launched by Abhijeet Dipke after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant compared unemployed youth to “cockroaches.” What began as a symbolic campaign has since evolved into a nationwide protest platform demanding greater accountability in the education system.

Social activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the movement at Jantar Mantar on June 28, beginning an indefinite hunger strike and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The campaign gathered further momentum on July 20, when thousands of students and supporters marched towards Parliament as part of the “Sansad Chalo” protest.

Veteran actors Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Naseeruddin Shah and Abhay Deol have appealed to the government to engage in dialogue with Sonam Wangchuk. Actors Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, singer Shilpa Rao and several others have also expressed solidarity with the students, urging authorities to address their concerns through meaningful dialogue.
