South Africa all-rounder Nadine de Klerk delivered a stunning performance to lead her team to a remarkable victory over .

India in Match 10 of the Women’s World Cup 2025 on Thursday, October 9, at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. De Klerk played a match-winning innings of 84* off 54 balls, featuring eight fours and five sixes, helping South Africa chase down 252 in just 48.5 overs.

Batting at number eight, she shared a crucial 69-run partnership off 60 balls with Chloe Tryon for the seventh wicket. After Tryon’s dismissal, de Klerk took charge, reaching her half-century in 40 balls and dominating the final overs to seal the win.

“I am lost for words. Winning like this gives us huge confidence. I enjoy pressure situations and love playing in World Cups. Beating India at home required our best, and we showed we can deliver in tight situations. Even needing 7-8 runs per over in the last 10 overs, we stayed in the game and executed well,” de Klerk said in the post-match presentation.

She also praised Tryon for her support in the middle: “Chloe batted brilliantly and eased the pressure off me. Finishing games is part of my role at number eight. Today’s wicket was good, and we’ll take a few days to reflect and learn, even from a win.”

De Klerk’s 84* is the second-highest score in Women’s ODIs by a batter at number eight or lower, second only to Richa Ghosh’s 94. Her innings secured South Africa’s first victory over India after five consecutive defeats.

Following the win, South Africa maintained fourth place on the points table with four points from three matches, while India remained third with four points from as many games.
