Actor-filmmaker Riteish Deshmukh has strongly reacted to the controversy surrounding remarks made about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, calling them “distorted nonsense” and asserting that any attempt to undermine the Maratha icon’s legacy would not be accepted.

The row erupted after Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, widely known as Bageshwar Baba, made comments about Shivaji Maharaj during a foundation-laying event in Nagpur. The remarks quickly triggered backlash from multiple quarters, with critics accusing him of misrepresenting history.

Responding on X (formerly Twitter), Deshmukh posted a strongly worded message in Marathi, voicing both personal anguish and public outrage. Identifying himself as a “Shiv-premi” and “Shiv-bhakt,” the actor said such statements were deeply offensive and unacceptable.

“When someone spreads distorted nonsense about our revered figure, it is both infuriating and intolerable,” he wrote, adding that attempts to belittle Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy would be firmly opposed.

Deshmukh is set to portray the legendary warrior king in his upcoming film Raja Shivaji, making his response particularly significant amid the ongoing debate.
