US President Donald Trump is expected to attend the upcoming G7 summit in France next month despite mounting tensions between Washington and several Western allies over the ongoing Iran conflict, according to a report by Axios.
The summit, scheduled to take place in Évian-les-Bains from June 15 to 17, will bring together leaders of the world’s major economies for discussions on trade, artificial intelligence, global security and economic cooperation. However, the war involving Iran is expected to dominate the talks amid growing divisions within the bloc.
According to Axios, Trump’s participation had remained uncertain in recent weeks because of frustration within the US administration over the positions taken by countries such as France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom regarding Iran.
Several European allies have reportedly resisted fully backing Washington’s approach to the conflict, creating fresh diplomatic strain between the United States and key G7 partners.
French President Emmanuel Macron is said to be working to reduce tensions ahead of the summit. The report stated that Macron plans to host a formal dinner for leaders at the Palace of Versailles following the main meetings, a gesture viewed as an attempt to improve relations with Trump and preserve G7 unity.
The Iran conflict has increasingly become a central issue in international diplomacy and global economic discussions. During a recent gathering of G7 finance ministers in Paris, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reportedly urged member nations to strengthen sanctions targeting Iranian-linked funding networks and activities.
Trump is also expected to use the summit to advance broader US strategic priorities, including linking American aid with trade arrangements, promoting US-led artificial intelligence technologies and reducing reliance on China for critical mineral supply chains, Reuters reported.
Despite the disagreements surrounding Iran and wider geopolitical issues, Trump’s expected participation signals continued US engagement with major allies during a period of heightened global instability and diplomatic uncertainty.
