About Rath Yatra
Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, is a major Hindu celebration held annually in Puri, Odisha. Believed to have originated between the 12th and 16th centuries, the festival marks Lord Jagannath’s symbolic journey to his aunt’s home, accompanied by his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra. The deities are taken out in grand chariots and pulled by thousands of devotees from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple, a journey of about 3 km. The event includes sacred rituals, chanting, and festive gatherings.
What is the Kang Festival?
Celebrated in Manipur, the Kang festival shares similarities with Puri’s Rath Yatra and is deeply rooted in the Vaishnavite traditions of the Meitei community. It also commemorates the ceremonial procession of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra to the local Jagannath temple.
Upcoming Bank Holiday
According to the RBI calendar, the next bank holiday will fall on June 30 (Sunday) for Remna Ni in Aizawl, Mizoram.
