Alcaraz Breezes Past Norrie, Fritz Battles Past Khachanov to Reach Wimbledon Semis.
Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz punched their tickets to the Wimbledon 2025 semi-finals on Tuesday, July 8, securing contrasting wins to set up a high-stakes final-four clash.
Alcaraz Cruises Into Semis With 23rd Straight Wimbledon Win
On Centre Court, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz made quick work of Cameron Norrie, breezing through with a dominant 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 win in just under two hours. The Spaniard broke Norrie early with aggressive shot-making and never looked back, displaying his trademark blend of power and finesse.
Norrie, backed by the home crowd, showed flashes of resistance in the second and third sets but couldn’t keep pace with Alcaraz’s relentless rhythm. The 22-year-old fired 13 aces, converted 5 break points, and extended his unbeaten run at Wimbledon to 23 matches, moving into his eighth Grand Slam semi-final.
Fritz Overcomes Mid-Match Stumble to Outlast Khachanov
Meanwhile, on Court 1, Taylor Fritz had to weather a storm to reach his first-ever Wimbledon semi-final. The American looked in total control after taking the first two sets against Karen Khachanov, but a sudden lapse saw him drop the third set 1-6.
Khachanov surged with confidence, winning eight of nine games at one point. But Fritz dug deep in the fourth, regaining his composure to force a tiebreak, where he closed out the contest 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4).
“I was in control, serving great—and then, out of nowhere, I started making a ton of mistakes,” Fritz said after the match. “I really had to fight hard in the fourth to get things back on track.”
Semi-Final Showdown Looms
The Alcaraz vs. Fritz semi-final is scheduled for Friday, July 11, setting the stage for a thrilling encounter. Alcaraz will aim for a third straight Wimbledon title, while Fritz looks to continue his breakthrough run on grass.
