Ravi Shastri Names Abhishek Sharma as Player to Watch for T20 World Cup 2026

Former India coach Ravi Shastri has tipped Abhishek Sharma as the most impactful player for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Speaking at an ICC event in Mumbai, Shastri highlighted Abhishek’s confidence and in-form batting, calling him “one of the most dangerous batters in the world.”

Shastri’s praise follows Abhishek’s match-winning knock against New Zealand in Nagpur, where he smashed 84 off 35 balls. Alongside captain Suryakumar Yadav, he added 99 runs in just 47 balls, helping India post a massive 238 runs.

“Abhishek, without a shadow of a doubt, is the No. 1 T20 batsman in the world and in rich form,” Shastri said. “If he fires, India fires. His confidence is sky-high, and he’ll have the backing of the home crowd.” Abhishek rose to prominence after a stellar 2024 IPL season and debuted internationally with a century against Zimbabwe. Known for his power-hitting and ability to dominate spinners, he has been central to India’s high-scoring games, especially in the powerplay.

India opens their T20 World Cup campaign on February 7, with Abhishek expected to play a key role alongside Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, and other mainstays.
