Trump Revokes Canada’s Board of Peace Invitation After Davos Face-Off
US President Donald Trump has withdrawn Canada’s invitation to his proposed “Board of Peace”, following Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s criticism of US tariffs and Greenland ambitions. The move adds tension to relations between the two allies, already strained after a fiery exchange at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
Trump posted the revocation on Truth Social, sharing a letter to Carney:
“The Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled.” At Davos, Carney warned that the global rules-based order was fracturing, noting that major powers increasingly use tariffs and economic tools as leverage. Trump shot back, saying,
“They should be grateful to us, Canada. Canada lives because of the United States.”
Carney responded on X:
“Canada thrives because we are Canadian… Our partnership with the US is strong, but Canada does not live because of the United States.” The spat follows Trump sharing an AI-generated image of Canada and Greenland as part of the US, which drew international concern.
