Actress Anju Krishna, assistant director held in Chennai drug bust; 8 arrested

Chennai police on Thursday arrested eight people, including Tamil–Malayalam actress Anju Krishna and Tamil assistant director Vincy Nivetha, in a drug bust conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU).

According to officials, the operation led to the seizure of methamphetamine, LSD stamps and cannabis. The case has been handed over to the Valasaravakkam police for further investigation.

How the probe unfolded

The investigation began with the arrest of Vigneshwaran (33) of Nesapakkam following a tip-off received by Inspector Johnny Chellappa of the ANIU (South), the Times of India reported. During interrogation, Vigneshwaran allegedly disclosed that he sourced narcotic substances from Venkatesh Kumar (31) of Kovur near Porur.

Based on this information, police deployed a decoy customer to contact Kumar. He was intercepted when his car arrived near a landmark in Valasaravakkam, following which he and several associates were taken into custody.

The accused have been identified as:

• Venkatesh Kumar (31), Kovur

• Karthik Raja (31), Kovur

• Yashwanth (25), Kattupakkam

• Sriram (33), West Mambalam

• Alvibinsha (27), Kovilambakkam

• Vincy Nivetha (26), Vadapalani

• Anju Krishna (30), Vadapalani

Seizures

Police said the following items were recovered:

• 6 grams of methamphetamine

• 7 grams of OG ganja

• 15 grams of ganja

• One smoking bong

• One LSD stamp

• Nine mobile phones

Legal status

All eight accused have been produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Police said further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the source and distribution network of the narcotics.
