Akshay Kumar has confirmed that his war drama Gorkha has been officially shelved. In a recent live interaction with fans on social media, the actor stated that the long-pending project will no longer move forward.
“Nahi, Gorkha movie nahi ban rahi hai kisine abhi poocha hai” (No, the Gorkha movie is not being made; someone just asked about it),” Akshay said, as quoted by Siasat Daily. While no official reason was shared by the actor, reports suggest that the film faced multiple hurdles over time, including rising production costs and unresolved technical issues, which eventually led to its indefinite postponement.
About Gorkha
Gorkha was based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a highly respected officer of the Indian Army’s 5th Gorkha Rifles. The project was initially set to be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. The film’s first look was released in 2021, showing Akshay Kumar in the role of a war hero. At the time, the actor described it as an inspiring true story and expressed pride in being associated with it.
In 2022, producer Anand L. Rai had said the team was still working on refining the script. “We will only make the film when we feel we are 100 percent right with the subject and have cracked it well,” he had noted.
Akshay Kumar’s Recent Release
