Bhooth Bangla worldwide box office day 7: Akshay Kumar film earns ₹135 crore, surpasses Munjya and Bad Newz lifetime totals
Bhooth Bangla, marking the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, has wrapped up its first week in theatres on a strong note.
The horror-comedy sustained steady momentum through the weekdays after a solid opening, finishing just short of the ₹150 crore mark globally and entering the top six highest-grossing Bollywood horror-comedies.
Box office performance
Released on April 17 with paid previews a day earlier, the film collected ₹58 crore net in India over its opening weekend. Collections dipped on Monday to ₹6.75 crore but rebounded to ₹8 crore on Tuesday. While earnings tapered midweek, the film held steady, adding ₹5.15 crore on Thursday — a 16% drop from Wednesday.
After seven days, the domestic total stands at ₹84.05 crore net (₹99.95 crore gross). Overseas, the film has also performed well, earning $3.8 million so far. Its worldwide gross now stands at ₹135 crore.
Though daily collections have slowed to under ₹10 crore, the film is expected to see a jump in its second weekend and likely cross ₹150 crore globally by Saturday. A strong hold could push its lifetime total beyond ₹250 crore, though bigger milestones may remain out of reach.
Climbs the horror-comedy ranks
With ₹135 crore worldwide, Bhooth Bangla is now the third-highest-grossing Hindi film of the year and the sixth-biggest horror-comedy in Bollywood. It has surpassed the lifetime earnings of Munjya (₹132 crore) and also overtaken Bad Newz (₹116 crore), another Akshay Kumar release.
The film now trails only major hits like Stree 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Stree, and Thamma in the genre’s all-time list. Breaking into the top three will require a strong second-weekend surge, though the massive numbers of Stree 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 may remain out of reach.
About the film
Directed by Priyadarshan, the film marks his return to Hindi cinema after five years and his first collaboration with Akshay Kumar in over a decade. The ensemble cast also includes Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Mithila Palkar.
