Mojtaba Khamenei Urges Muslim Nations To Unite Against US, Israel

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called on Muslim countries across the region to set aside differences and unite against the United States and Israel, in his latest written message issued six months after the outbreak of the Middle East war.

Khamenei took over as Iran’s supreme leader after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed at the beginning of the conflict on February 28. Since assuming the position, he has remained largely out of public view, with Iranian authorities yet to release any video or audio recording of him.

His message was issued on Sunday as Shia Muslims marked the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed.

Khamenei’s Appeal To Muslim Countries

Khamenei said cooperation and solidarity among Islamic nations were necessary to overcome the challenges facing them.

“The solution to the problems of the Islamic nations is unity of words, friendship, and cooperation on the path of goodness,” he said, according to his official website.

He warned that anyone contributing to divisions or tensions within the Muslim community, whether intentionally or unintentionally, was effectively helping what he described as the enemies of Islam.

Addressing regional leaders, Khamenei urged them to “recognise your real enemy, understand its plan, and confront it”, referring to the United States and Israel.

Tensions With Gulf Nations

Iran’s relations with several regional countries have deteriorated following the war.

During the conflict, Tehran targeted US military installations in countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.

Khamenei also called for unity inside Iran, asking officials and citizens to avoid allowing political or social differences to undermine national cohesion.

In a separate message on Friday, he had warned against actions that could damage unity within Iranian society.

“I firmly declare that doing anything detrimental to social cohesion is prohibited,” he said.

Call For Economic Self-Reliance

Khamenei also highlighted the need for Iran to strengthen its economy and reduce dependence on the US dollar.

He called for a gradual move towards de-dollarisation and greater domestic production, arguing that economic activity must be boosted to support growth.

Iran has faced years of severe economic pressure because of US sanctions, while the recent conflict and a US naval blockade have added to the difficulties faced by the country’s economy and population.

Khamenei’s latest message thus combined a call for greater solidarity among Muslim nations with demands for unity inside Iran and a push for stronger economic independence.
