Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana to Stream on JioHotstar After Theatrical Run Under Pay-Per-View Model

Namit Malhotra’s upcoming epic Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, will be available to Indian audiences on JioHotstar after its theatrical release through a pay-per-view model. Under this arrangement, viewers will need to purchase access to the film separately instead of watching it through a regular streaming subscription.

As reported by Hindustan Times, the digital distribution plan follows a partnership between JioHotstar and Prime Focus Studios to bring the ambitious production to homes across India after its cinema run.

The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, coinciding with Diwali. The makers also plan to release it in IMAX 3D, encouraging audiences to experience the epic on the big screen before its digital debut.

Nita Ambani on Taking Ramayana to Homes Across India

Nita M. Ambani, chairperson of JioStar, said the collaboration would help bring the culturally significant story to families throughout India, including younger viewers who may be experiencing the epic for the first time.

She described the Ramayana as an enduring part of India’s cultural heritage and highlighted the opportunity to use technology to make its values and storytelling accessible to a wider audience.

Ambani said JioHotstar aims to bring quality stories within reach of people across the country, adding that the initiative would help introduce a new generation to the epic’s timeless messages of duty, love, courage and goodness.

Under the planned pay-per-view arrangement, viewers will be able to buy access to the film once its theatrical window ends. The film will not be included automatically in a standard streaming subscription, according to the reported release plan.

Why Namit Malhotra Chose a Pay-Per-View Digital Release

Producer Namit Malhotra said the team wants audiences to experience Ramayana on the biggest possible screen, particularly in IMAX 3D. However, he acknowledged that cinema infrastructure cannot provide access to everyone who wishes to watch the story.

Malhotra stressed that the epic belongs to every Indian and that its reach should extend beyond cinema halls. He identified JioHotstar as a suitable partner because of its established presence in sports and entertainment and its ability to connect with audiences across the country.

The collaboration is intended to complement the theatrical release by allowing viewers to watch the film at home after its cinema run. However, the separate payment requirement means audiences will need to purchase access rather than rely solely on an existing subscription.

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend — Film Details

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is planned as a two-part live-action adaptation directed by Nitesh Tiwari, with Ranbir Kapoor among its leading cast members.

Shridhar Raghavan has adapted Valmiki’s epic for the screen. The project is being produced by Prime Focus Studios alongside DNEG, the Academy Award-winning visual effects studio, and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.

The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres worldwide on November 5, 2026, with IMAX 3D screenings planned as part of its cinematic presentation. Following its theatrical window, the JioHotstar pay-per-view option is expected to give audiences another way to experience the production.

The release strategy combines a large-format theatrical debut with a separately purchased digital viewing option, aiming to extend the film’s reach across India while preserving the big-screen experience as its first destination.
