Rahul Gandhi Acquitted by Sultanpur Court in Defamation Case Over Amit Shah Remarks
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was acquitted by a Sultanpur court on Monday in a defamation case filed over his 2018 remarks against Amit Shah, who was then the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The complaint was lodged by local BJP leader Vijay Mishra, who accused Gandhi of making derogatory comments about Shah. The allegations stemmed from remarks made by the Congress leader during a political gathering in 2018.
Gandhi appeared before the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur in February, where he denied the allegations and described the complaint as politically motivated.
His lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, had challenged the case, calling it baseless and seeking its dismissal.
The court’s decision marks the conclusion of the defamation proceedings against Gandhi at this stage. The case had remained in focus amid the political contest between the Congress and the BJP, with the complaint centred on the Congress leader’s comments about Shah during his tenure as the BJP’s national president.
