Pune Murder Mystery: Woman Returns From UK Without Telling Family, Food Delivery Trail Leads to Body
A 34-year-old woman who had returned to India from London without informing her family was found dead in a rented apartment in Pune.
Her family discovered clues about her return through food delivery payments made from locations in Maharashtra, eventually leading police to the flat where her body was found. Mugdha Deshmukh, a resident of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, had travelled to the United Kingdom in July last year to pursue an MBA. While living in London, she stayed alone and worked part-time to support herself.
She reportedly maintained regular contact with her family through calls and messages. However, concerns arose on October 24 when she stopped responding to their communications and her mobile phone became unreachable.
Her parents then contacted one of her friends in London. The friend informed them that she had last exchanged messages with Mugdha on October 22. She subsequently approached London police to report her missing. However, authorities reportedly revealed that Mugdha had left the UK around the end of August.
Bank Statements Provide Crucial Clue
As the family struggled to establish her whereabouts, they approached Indian authorities and the Indian High Commission for help.
Mugdha’s father later examined her bank statements and noticed multiple food delivery transactions between October 8 and October 25. Some payments were linked to the Osamanpura locality in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
These transactions led the family to suspect that Mugdha had secretly returned to India and was staying somewhere in Maharashtra.
Following an investigation, police traced her location to the Lodha Belmondo residential complex in Gahunje, Pune. Officers reached the apartment and, with the assistance of a keymaker, managed to enter the premises.
Inside, they found Mugdha dead.
Senior Inspector Devendra Chavan of Shirgaon Police Station in Pimpri Chinchwad confirmed that the police had tracked her to the residential complex before entering the flat. He added that no visible injury marks were found on her body.
Investigation Underway to Determine Cause of Death
Police investigations revealed that Mugdha had rented the apartment in April but started residing there in August.
Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding her return from London, her stay in Pune and the events leading to her death. The cause of death has not yet been established, and further investigation is underway.
