Pune Fort Murder: Cricket Friendship Between Siya’s Brother and Chetan Under Probe
The investigation into the alleged murder of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal has uncovered how accused Chetan Chaudhary first entered the Goyal family’s circle. According to Pune Rural Police, Chetan was introduced to Siya Goyal through her brother, Sahil, after the two became friends while playing cricket.
Sahil, who was questioned for over 10 hours on Friday, told investigators he had known about Siya’s relationship with Chetan for several months and had advised her to end it because she was engaged to Ketan.
Ketan, a director of a Pune-based real estate company, died after falling from Lohagad Fort on June 18. Police have since arrested Siya and Chetan, alleging the fall was the result of a planned murder.
How Chetan met Siya
According to investigators, Sahil and Chetan met in 2024 through local cricket matches and gradually became friends.
Police said the friendship eventually led to Chetan being introduced to Siya, bringing him into regular contact with the family.
During questioning, investigators sought to determine when Sahil first became aware of the relationship and whether other family members knew about it.
Police sources said Sahil admitted he had learnt about the relationship months ago and had repeatedly asked his sister to break it off in view of her engagement to Ketan.
Investigators are now examining whether the family noticed any signs of trouble before the alleged conspiracy was hatched.
Affair allegedly continued during wedding preparations
According to police, Siya continued to make wedding preparations with Ketan even as she remained in regular contact with Chetan.
Investigators claim she frequently visited Ketan’s family, actively participated in planning the ceremony and had even planned a pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali.
Police also allege that call records show Siya and Chetan exchanged more than 2,000 calls between January and June, spending close to 238 hours talking to each other.
Another aspect under investigation is Siya’s alleged reluctance to marry Ketan after learning that he wore a hair patch due to baldness. However, Ketan’s family has maintained that the Goyal family had already been informed about his hair treatment before the engagement.
Cafe meeting a day before death
Police are also examining CCTV footage of a meeting between Siya and Chetan at a cafe in Pune’s Kondhwa area on June 17, a day before Ketan’s death.
According to investigators, the two spent nearly 90 minutes together. Officers are trying to establish whether the meeting was linked to the events that unfolded at Lohagad Fort the following day.
Chetan, a BBA graduate who lives in Kondhwa, remains a key focus of the investigation as police analyse his movements and communications before the incident.
Investigation continues
Pune Rural Police have recorded statements from 10 witnesses so far, including an employee at Chetan’s shop.
As part of the probe, investigators have also taken members of both the victim’s and the accused’s families to Lohagad Fort to recreate the sequence of events leading to Ketan’s death.
The case has also left the Goyal family devastated. According to police sources, Siya’s father has reportedly been hospitalised following her arrest. Relatives said he had been overseeing wedding preparations, including travel arrangements for around 70 guests expected to attend celebrations in Ahmedabad and Rajasthan.
Police continue to examine digital evidence, CCTV footage and witness statements as the investigation progresses.
