CSK Break Home Curse; Samson’s Yellow Arrival Seals Win Over DC

Relief swept through M. A. Chidambaram Stadium as Chennai Super Kings finally ended their home slump with a commanding 23-run win over Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League 2026.

After six straight losses at Chepauk, this wasn’t just a win—it was a statement. At the centre of it stood Sanju Samson. After a slow start to the season, Samson roared back to form with a magnificent unbeaten 115 off 56 balls. Opening the innings, he batted with authority and fluency, registering his first century for CSK and the fourth of his IPL career as the hosts piled up 212 for 2.

Samson leads the charge

Samson dictated terms from the outset. He dominated the PowerPlay, scoring 45 of CSK’s 61 runs in the first six overs, setting a strong platform. His strokeplay was crisp, his movement assured, and his intent clear—this was a batter back in control.

He reached his half-century in just 26 balls and brought up his hundred in 52, drawing deafening cheers from the Chepauk crowd. A reprieve on 55—dropped by Pathum Nissanka off Axar Patel—proved costly, as Samson capitalised fully, carrying his bat through the innings.

Alongside him, Ayush Mhatre continued his impressive run with a composed 59 off 36 balls. Their 113-run stand for the second wicket provided the backbone of the innings. Shivam Dube added late impetus, while Ruturaj Gaikwad chipped in during the opening phase.

DC lose grip after strong start

The chase began at a blistering pace, with KL Rahul and Nissanka racing to 61 in five overs. For a moment, CSK’s recent struggles seemed to resurface.

But the momentum shifted quickly. Nissanka’s dismissal triggered a slowdown, and CSK’s bowlers seized control. Jamie Overton was outstanding, picking up 4 for 18 with disciplined hard lengths that proved difficult to counter. His wickets of David Miller and Tristan Stubbs broke the backbone of the chase.

Support came from Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj and debutant Gurjapneet Singh, who maintained relentless pressure. Sharp fielding ensured there was no easy release for Delhi.

Stubbs fought on with a gritty 60 off 38 balls, but wickets kept tumbling at the other end. The asking rate climbed, the pressure mounted, and Delhi were eventually bowled out for 189.

A night that resets CSK’s season

For CSK, this was a complete performance—dominant with the bat, disciplined with the ball, and sharp in the field. More importantly, it snapped a frustrating home streak and injected fresh belief into their campaign.

And fittingly, it was Samson who owned the night. After a lean run and growing questions, he answered in the most emphatic way possible—leading from the front and lighting up Chepauk with a match-winning hundred.
