Form Watch on Pooran, Pant as LSG Aim to Break Home Struggles vs GT

The Indian Premier League 2026 season is approaching a defining stretch, where early momentum can separate contenders from the rest.

With two wins in three games, Lucknow Super Giants will look to build consistency when they host Gujarat Titans at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Both sides come in with confidence from tight finishes. Lucknow rode on a stunning late assault from Mukul Choudhary to beat Kolkata Knight Riders, while Gujarat held their nerve in a last-ball win over Delhi Capitals.

Home discomfort for LSG

Despite a solid start to the season, Lucknow’s biggest concern remains their home record. They are on a five-match losing streak at the Ekana, a venue that has tested their batting repeatedly. Their only home game this season ended in a collapse against Delhi.

On the road, they have been far more convincing, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad and KKR. But to stay ahead in the points race, they need to solve their home puzzle quickly.

Captain Rishabh Pant holds the key. While he showed promise with a fluent 68 earlier in the season, he has not yet found consistent rhythm. A strong outing at home could set the tone for Lucknow’s campaign.

Pressure on Pooran

The spotlight is also firmly on Nicholas Pooran. One of the most destructive hitters in T20 cricket, Pooran has managed just 22 runs in three matches.

Batting at No. 5 behind Pant and Ayush Badoni, he has had limited time to build an innings. LSG may consider promoting him if the platform allows, especially if openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram provide a strong start.

The emergence of Mukul Choudhary has been a bright spot. The young finisher’s fearless hitting has added depth and flexibility to the middle order.

GT’s batting finds rhythm

Gujarat Titans appear to be settling into the tournament. Shubman Gill led from the front with a composed 70 in their previous outing, while Jos Buttler’s return to form strengthens the top order.

Washington Sundar’s fifty provided stability, and with finishers like Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan, Gujarat have a well-rounded batting unit. Players such as Glenn Phillips add further firepower.

Bowling could decide the contest

Both teams boast quality bowling attacks. Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj lead their respective pace units, supported by Avesh Khan and Kagiso Rabada.

Gujarat also have the raw pace of Ashok Sharma, while Lucknow can turn to Prince Yadav.

In spin, Rashid Khan remains the biggest threat, though Lucknow’s pairing of Digvesh Rathi and M Siddharth could be effective on a helpful surface.

Conditions and combinations

A hot afternoon is expected in Lucknow with no rain interruptions. A fresh pitch combining red and black soil is likely to offer something for both batters and bowlers.

Lucknow continue to manage Mayank Yadav’s workload, while George Linde could come into contention to add balance.

Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, are expected to stick with their winning XI, though Jason Holder remains an option if conditions demand an extra all-rounder.
