IMF, World Bank and UN World Food Programme warn conflict is worsening global food insecurity

The heads of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the UN World Food Programme on Wednesday warned that surging prices of oil, natural gas, and fertilizers are set to drive up food costs and deepen global food insecurity.

In a joint statement, the leaders said the impact would be felt most acutely by the world’s most vulnerable populations, especially in low-income countries that rely heavily on imports.

They added that their institutions would closely track the situation and coordinate the use of all available tools to support those affected by the crisis.
