India Summons Pakistan Diplomat Over Border Infiltration, Rejects ‘Baseless’ Claim

India has summoned Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires to lodge a strong diplomatic protest over the alleged continuation of cross-border infiltration from Pakistan, a day after two suspected intruders were killed by Border Security Force personnel in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.

The Ministry of External Affairs said three individuals had entered Indian territory and moved towards the border fence despite repeated warnings from the BSF. While one person returned towards Pakistan, the other two allegedly continued advancing towards the Indian side.

The Indian side told Pakistan that the BSF was forced to engage the two men after they failed to heed warnings and were deemed to pose an imminent security threat.

India Raises Infiltration And Drug Smuggling Concerns

During the meeting, the MEA highlighted what it described as a repeated pattern of cross-border movement involving armed narcotics syndicates allegedly operating from Pakistan.

New Delhi urged Islamabad to investigate incidents of infiltration and drug smuggling, as well as alleged complicity by Pakistani border forces.

India also called on Pakistan to take concrete measures to prevent unauthorised movement across the International Border and ensure its forces exercise effective control over their side of the boundary.

The MEA stressed that Pakistan must respect the sanctity of the International Border and comply with relevant bilateral arrangements.

New Delhi Rejects Pakistan’s ‘Civilian’ Claim

India also rejected Pakistan’s allegation that the two men were civilians who had inadvertently crossed the border, describing the claim as “baseless and motivated”.

Pakistan had earlier summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires and protested the deaths, accusing BSF personnel of using unprovoked lethal force against “unarmed civilians”.

India disputed that account, maintaining that the two men ignored repeated warnings and continued moving towards Indian territory.

How The Tarn Taran Incident Unfolded

Tarn Taran Deputy Superintendent of Police Atul Soni said three suspected intruders were spotted advancing towards the Indian side.

According to the police official, one of them turned back and returned to Pakistan. The other two allegedly continued moving forward despite repeated warnings from BSF troops.

The two men also reportedly provoked the personnel and said they wanted to enter Indian territory. The BSF subsequently opened fire, killing both suspects.

Their identities have not yet been disclosed.
