Reality television star Kim Kardashian has sparked discussion online after revealing that she consumes nearly 35 supplements a day, raising questions about whether extensive wellness routines can do more harm than good.

Speaking on the Good Hang podcast hosted by Amy Poehler, Kardashian said she splits the supplements into three doses throughout the day and admitted that the routine can sometimes become overwhelming.

“I take probably 35 supplements a day. I spread them out three times a day,” she said, adding that she recently experienced what she described as “pill fatigue” and briefly stopped taking fish oil supplements before blood tests prompted her to restart them.

The 45-year-old entrepreneur also joked that she wished there was an intravenous drip option she could use daily on her way to work instead of consuming large numbers of pills.

Her comments quickly triggered reactions across social media, with some users viewing the routine as a sign of discipline and commitment to health, while others questioned whether such a high intake of supplements was necessary or even safe.

Health experts caution that most people do not require large numbers of supplements if they already consume a balanced diet. Specialists note that supplements are generally intended to address specific nutritional deficiencies rather than function as replacements for healthy eating and lifestyle habits.

Medical professionals also warn of several potential concerns linked to excessive supplement use. Fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E and K can accumulate in the body and, when taken in excess, may contribute to harmful effects. Some minerals may also interfere with the absorption of others, while certain supplements and herbal products can interact with prescription medications.

Experts say another issue involves the burden placed on organs such as the liver and kidneys, which process substances entering the body. Taking dozens of compounds simultaneously may increase strain on these systems.

Kardashian’s reference to “pill fatigue” has also drawn attention. Health professionals describe it as mental or physical exhaustion caused by managing numerous medications or supplements over long periods, potentially making routines difficult to maintain and increasing the risk of mistakes.

Nutrition experts generally recommend prioritising core health habits such as balanced meals, regular physical activity, adequate sleep and stress management before turning to supplements. They say targeted supplementation — such as vitamin D, iron or B12 when deficiencies are identified — may be more beneficial than taking large numbers of products without a specific need.
