‘No Fixed Deadline’: Trump Will Set Iran War Timeline, White House Says

The White House has said Donald Trump will determine the course and timeline of the ongoing conflict with Iran, underscoring continued uncertainty despite a fragile ceasefire.

Addressing reporters, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made it clear there is no fixed deadline, with decisions to be taken in line with US strategic interests. “President Trump will ultimately dictate the timeline… when he believes it is in the best interest of the United States and the American people,” she said.

Even as direct military strikes remain paused, Washington has maintained its naval blockade of Iranian ports—an economic pressure tool introduced early in the conflict and still in force. Leavitt emphasised that the administration is balancing restraint with pressure, combining a pause in combat operations with sustained economic measures that she said are tightening the squeeze on Tehran.

She also rejected reports suggesting any imminent deadline. “There is no set timetable… those claims are inaccurate,” she said. The White House pointed to internal divisions within Iran’s leadership as a potential factor shaping negotiations, even as diplomatic channels remain active. Indirect talks continue with the involvement of regional mediators, including Qatar and Oman.

The comments highlight Washington’s calibrated approach—keeping military options open while pushing for leverage through economic and diplomatic means.
