‘Shakti Ki Saptdhara’: PM Modi Lays Out 7 Pillars for India’s Viksit Bharat Push
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled ‘Shakti Ki Saptdhara’, a seven-point roadmap for the next generation of reforms, during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort.
Positioning the framework as a key driver of Viksit Bharat, PM Modi identified seven sectors that India must strengthen to sustain its development and expand its global footprint.
The seven pillars are manufacturing; agriculture and food processing; technology and innovation; Gati Shakti; Raksha Shakti; the green and blue economy; and soft power.
Manufacturing: Compete on a Global Scale
PM Modi called for Indian manufacturing to become more competitive in terms of cost, quality and scale. He stressed the need for products made in India to meet global standards and strengthen the country’s position in international markets.
Agriculture: From Farm Products to Global Brands
Agriculture and food processing form the second pillar. The Prime Minister emphasised value addition and greater access to global markets, with a focus on turning Indian agricultural products into internationally recognised brands.
Technology and Innovation: Building Future Capabilities
The third pillar focuses on technology and innovation. PM Modi highlighted digital and communication technologies while calling for stronger capabilities in emerging technologies that can power India’s next phase of economic growth.
Gati Shakti: Faster Connectivity
Under Gati Shakti, the government’s focus will be on seamless connectivity and faster infrastructure development. Improved transport networks are expected to facilitate the movement of both people and goods and strengthen economic activity.
Raksha Shakti: Defence Self-Reliance
Defence capability forms the fifth pillar. PM Modi stressed the importance of developing advanced defence technologies within India and highlighted next-generation systems, including drones and supersonic technologies.
Green and Blue Economy: Growth with Sustainability
The sixth pillar combines the green and blue economy. PM Modi said India’s natural resources can provide new avenues for sustainable economic growth while creating opportunities in emerging sectors.
Soft Power: Taking India’s Strengths Global
The final pillar centres on India’s soft power. The Prime Minister pointed to Yoga, Ayurveda, holistic health, creative industries and tourism as areas that can strengthen India’s global influence and generate new economic opportunities.
Describing the framework as the “power of seven”, PM Modi said the seven pillars would serve as the foundation for the next phase of reforms and help accelerate India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
