Haiwaan Box Office Day 1: Saif Ali Khan-Akshay Kumar Starrer Opens At Rs 3 Crore

Haiwaan Box Office Collection Day 1: Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s much-awaited action thriller Haiwaan opened in cinemas on Friday, September 11.

Despite the buzz around the reunion of the two actors, the Priyadarshan directorial registered a modest start at the box office, earning around Rs 3 crore on its opening day in India.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Haiwaan collected an estimated Rs 3 crore net in India from 7,224 shows on Day 1. The film’s India gross stood at around Rs 3.60 crore, while its overseas earnings were estimated at nearly Rs 1 crore, taking its worldwide gross to approximately Rs 4 crore.

The film’s occupancy remained subdued throughout the day. Haiwaan recorded 12.42 per cent occupancy during the morning shows, with the figure improving slightly to 18.15 per cent during the night.

Priyadarshan’s film had generated considerable interest ahead of its release, primarily because it brings Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan together on screen after a long gap. The cast also includes Saiyami Kher, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Boman Irani and Sharib Hashmi in prominent roles.

The story follows a visually impaired martial artist who becomes caught up in a dangerous situation involving a young girl and a ruthless criminal. Saif plays the visually impaired protagonist, while Akshay takes on the role of the antagonist.

Haiwaan is an official remake of Priyadarshan’s 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam. However, the film has received mixed reactions, with several reviews pointing to weaknesses in its screenplay and execution.

News18 Showsha awarded the film two stars, stating that the reunion of Akshay and Saif deserved stronger material. The review also criticised the screenplay, suggesting that even the combined star power of the two actors could not completely overcome its shortcomings.

With a relatively slow opening, Haiwaan now faces the crucial weekend ahead. The film’s Saturday and Sunday collections will determine whether positive word of mouth can help it pick up momentum at the box office.
