After 10 Days on the Run, Samarth Singh Detained Following Dramatic Court Appearance in Twisha Sharma Death Case

Samarth Singh, husband of deceased Noida woman Twisha Sharma, appeared dramatically at a Jabalpur court on Friday after evading authorities for 10 days and was subsequently taken into police custody in the sensational case that has sparked nationwide outrage and demands for a CBI investigation.

Scenes of confusion and chaos unfolded inside the court premises as Samarth’s surrender turned into a dramatic legal spectacle. Although his lawyer had earlier indicated that he would formally surrender before the court, uncertainty prevailed for hours as the accused allegedly moved between different courtrooms while police teams waited outside.

The drama intensified when advocate Anurag Srivastav, counsel for Twisha Sharma’s family, claimed he unexpectedly encountered Samarth sitting inside a dark courtroom while attending court for another case.

According to Srivastav, the courtroom lights were switched off, the judge was absent, and Samarth was seated wearing a mask alongside a few court clerks. “I asked under what authority he was being kept there, but nobody answered. The moment he saw me, he ran away and his lawyers pushed me aside,” Srivastav alleged, raising serious questions over the manner in which the surrender proceedings were being conducted.

The allegations added to the controversy surrounding the case, particularly after claims that Samarth was attempting to avoid appearing before the designated trial court in Bhopal, despite directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Outside the court, Srivastav alleged that there was no legal provision for surrender before the district court in Jabalpur and questioned why the accused was allegedly receiving preferential treatment. Twisha’s father also accused supporters of Samarth of creating chaos inside the premises and claimed their lawyer was assaulted during the commotion.

Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had allowed Samarth Singh to withdraw his anticipatory bail plea and granted him liberty to surrender before the trial court or the investigating officer at Katara Hills Police Station in Bhopal. The court clarified that police would then be free to arrest and interrogate him in accordance with the law.

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old woman from Noida, was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. While the post-mortem report described the death as suicide, her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide, alleging foul play and demanding an independent investigation. The Singh family, however, claimed Twisha was battling drug addiction.

In another major development, the court approved a second autopsy after Twisha’s family argued that key questions surrounding her death remained unanswered. The body continues to be preserved at AIIMS Bhopal mortuary.

The latest developments came shortly after the Madhya Pradesh government recommended handing over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation, officially consenting to transfer the high-profile case to the central agency.
