Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan met his sister Noreen Niazi at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, nearly nine months after their last meeting.

The visit came shortly after the Pakistan Supreme Court ordered authorities to allow weekly meetings between Khan and his family and directed his transfer to a private hospital in Islamabad for medical evaluation.

According to The Express Tribune, Noreen spent around 15 minutes with Khan. She updated him on the Supreme Court’s order concerning his proposed transfer to Shifa International Hospital, asked about his health and discussed some legal matters.

Noreen confirmed after the meeting that she had seen her brother but did not speak to reporters, following an assurance given to the court. She later left the jail with her sisters Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan.

The sisters had initially been stopped by police at the Dahgal checkpoint on the road to Adiala Jail. While all three were prevented from proceeding initially, authorities later allowed only Noreen to continue to the prison.

Imran Khan Also Meets Bushra Bibi

Khan also met his wife, Bushra Bibi, at the jail, with their meeting lasting approximately 30 to 35 minutes, according to the report.

Bushra had earlier met her daughter Mubashra Sheikh and sister-in-law Mehrunnnisa.

Aleema Khan, who was also present outside the jail, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision. “Words cannot describe how happy I am about the meeting,” she told reporters.

When asked whether she had received any indication of changing circumstances, Aleema said there was no such indication.

Supreme Court Orders Weekly Meetings

The meetings followed a ruling by a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed. The court directed authorities to facilitate weekly meetings between Khan and his family.

The bench was hearing petitions concerning Khan’s access to his sisters and personal physicians, as well as his medical condition.

The decision followed medical and jail reports submitted to the court. The reports recommended more frequent contact with Khan’s immediate family and spouse to help manage his blood pressure and anxiety.

Justice Waheed said family access should not be viewed as a concession, describing it as a fundamental right.

The court also ordered authorities to transfer Khan to Shifa International Hospital within two days for medical assessment and treatment. A medical board will examine and treat him in the presence of a senior doctor and his personal physician.

Khan is to remain at the private hospital until the next hearing on September 16.

Court Takes Note Of Khan’s Health

The Supreme Court’s intervention came amid prolonged concerns from Khan’s family and supporters about his health and alleged restrictions on medical care and family visits.

Jail authorities submitted records of 39 medical check-ups conducted by specialists between November 4, 2023, and August 10, 2026.

According to the report, Khan’s right eye, which had been affected by central retinal vein occlusion, had improved significantly following treatment, with his vision returning to “almost normal”.

The court also directed PTI and Khan’s supporters not to use his medical reports for political purposes and warned that violations of its directions could lead to the withdrawal of facilities granted to him.

Khan has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail since 2023 following convictions in several cases. His relatives and supporters have repeatedly alleged restrictions on his access to medical care, family members and legal counsel, while authorities have rejected those allegations.
